Beyer M201

The Beyer M 201 is easily the most popular Beyer microphone and can be used for a wide variety of applications. It's a small dynamic microphone with a tight hypercardioid pattern and has a very smooth response held within tight limits from 40Hz-18kHz. It has become a favourite for miking drums where the Hypercardioid pick up pattern enables the recording engineer to easily isolate individual components of the kit and its a particular favourite on the hi-hat. It's good to have at least one Hypercardioid mic and the Beyer is very handy when working at close proximity or at a distance where its tight directional characteristic really comes into its own.

Recording

Fairview have had the Beyer for years and though I've tried it in most things, it get used all the time on either the snare or hats. Its a good alternative to the Shure SM57 and you can try it on anything that you might use an SM57 on such as a guitar cab. Its size makes it great for getting into a busy kit and the tight pattern is good for minimising bleed from the hats and generally its a good all round mic for the price
