Golden Age Microphones

Golden Age might sound like a Chinese take away but they design a range of ribbon mics and a new preamp that is set to be a big success. We've never done this before but we were so knocked out with the performance of their gear for the money that we've done a deal with Golden Age to sell the R1 active ribbon and their fantastic vintage Pre-73 mic preamp on the website. Read the full review of the mic on the Review page. The latest MK3 version of their brilliant budget ribbon mic is even better than ever with improved headroom and 10 db pad and lo-cut filter switches, making it even more flexible. Ribbon mics are the must have mic for a reason and their figure 8 pattern lends it to experimentation for Blumlein pair and Mid/side recording while the big smooth sound adds a new take (no pun intended) on recording anything from vocals to drum O/Hs and guitars. You really should try out one of these mics and discover why ribbon mics are so great. We personally check out every mic in the studio before we ship to you and it comes with a 1 year warranty.

Golden Age Pre-73 Preamp

The Golden Age pre-73 is the runaway success story of the year and everyone agrees that there simply isnt a better specified and sounding preamp for the money anywhere. How the GA people manage to put their stuff together for the price is beyond me and I'm sure this preamp would sell for twice the price. What they have done is designed a really nice vintage style mic preamp with discreet components based around the Neve 1073 design. It contains 3 separate matched transformers giving it a really nice, warm punchy sound just like the real thing but at a fraction of the price. First impressions are that it's very well made and REALLY quiet even with all the gain turned up. It works like the vintage Neve in that at low gain it is perfectly clean and transparent but as you wind it up you start to hear a bit more character It even has a DI input, a phantom button and a low impedance selector and phase switch. You'd pay more than this simply for a DI of this quality
